⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/10
I’m not that much of a fan of summer because the sun and me have a love/hate relationship, but this drink shoves it down and makes you swallow, liking every bit of it. It is indeed ridiculously sweet but whatever! Some things are allowed to be. I did not in fact realise the Odyssey I would have to embark on to purchase elderflower liquor but that’s the kind of thing the jobless end up doing. After looking through four different stores we found her standing over the surrounding bottles with such promise and hope that we bought her on the spot. She may of been the most expensive liquor in the entire row but I can honestly see why - and fair enough because at least she knows her worth.
I thought using the fat lumps of ice in the bowl would make it look like a piss bucket but somehow it came together in the end, with help from the sun (I guess). I think the process of making it was more fun than the actual drink as it was therapeutic but also degrading, so the best of both worlds. I felt like the evil queen from ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ when she dips herself into that milk bath for some reason and comes out refreshed or something - I don’t really remember but now I understand her now more than ever.
We had set up a barbecue whilst we drank this, but somehow all three of us forgot to take the paper wrapping off so it was more like a bonfire. Moments like this remind me why it’s good to go outside and develop survival skills because you never know when you are going to go up in flames. The paper turned to ash and took flight, blowing itself across my friend’s entire patio and into every single crevice it could find, which I thank god for not having to clean up.
Later on, our uber driver said something weird that made us laugh and then he just couldn’t stop himself and suddenly he was reciting an entire film script that none of us had heard, so I was glad to see our stop ahead of us because I could only force out a polite laugh so many times from the same joke. But he was fun and I wish he could have some of this too because this drink is something that should be shared.
It was a perfect mixture of elegance and relaxation and I would recommend it to anyone who has the money, time, and patience, because it was rather demanding - but all the best are high maintenance. x
